MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – A 22-year-old Toronto man shot dead in an apparent home invasion in Mississauga early Friday broke in with two other suspects and died in an altercation with the homeowner, Peel police say.

Officers arrived at a home on Corkstone Glade, near Dixie Road and Rathburn Road East, after receiving a call about a break-and-enter around 12:30 a.m.

Police say there were two children and a woman in the home at the time of the apparent break-and-enter.

“They had no injuries, but obviously affected traumatically from this incident,” said Const. George Tudos.

The homeowner reported three males two of them armed had broken into the residence.

Officers located a man dead from a gunshot wound.

Police say the dead man was not a resident of the home and investigators believe he broke in with the two other males, and died in a struggle with the homeowner, who suffered minor injuries.

Police say they have no evidence of a connection between the homeowner and the deceased man.

The deceased man has been identified as Ibrahim Abukar.

Police are seeking the other two males described as black, wearing dark clothing and armed with a handgun.

There are no charges pending at this time, according to police.
