VAUGHAN, Ont. – A 47-year-old man surrendered Thursday after a fatal early morning hit-and-run in Vaughan.
York region police say a woman was struck shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Dufferin Street south of Rutherford Road. Witnesses saw a vehicle fleeing the scene.
The victim, a 57-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Investigators say she was walking east across Dufferin Street at Apple Blossom Drive when she was struck and killed by a southbound vehicle.
Police appealed to the public to help locate the driver.
Gino De Luca, of Vaughan, is charged with failing to stop, failing to stop causing bodily harm and failing to stop causing death.
De Luca is scheduled to appear in Newmarket court on Jan. 10.
