Police seek suspect in armed robbery of taxi driver

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police are seeking a suspect after a taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Police say a Diamond Taxi driver picked up a passenger in the Parliament and Winchester streets area.

The man asked the driver to take him to the rear of an apartment building on River Street, south of Gerrard Street when the man took out a kitchen knife and held it to the driver’s neck, police allege.

Police say the driver’s cell phone, wallet and cash were taken.

The suspect then fled on foot northbound on River Street toward Gerrard Street.

The suspect is described as having a brown complexion, about 35 years old and between 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8.

Police have released surveillance images of the suspect.
