An annual report shows the use of food banks in Ontario is at an all-time high.

The Ontario Association of Food Banks said more than 412,000 residents rely on a local food bank for support each month.

Children are the biggest users of the program, closely followed by single parents and seniors.

Rising costs of food and living are among the reasons listed for the increase, and supplies have not risen with demand.

Nineteen per cent of provincial food banks don’t have adequate supplies to deal with the growing provincial need.
