TORONTO, Ont. — Toronto Police don’t want you to be victim of a grinch this holiday season if you are shopping downtown.

Over the next five weeks, police officers, transit parole and auxiliary officers will patrolling the downtown core all hours of the day.

Undercover officers are targeting petty criminals all the Yonge Street corridor sending a message that shoppers and revellers are welcome but criminals are not.

“We want to ensure that everyone coming into the downtown core has a safe experience and feels safe,” Inspector Howie Page explained.

Page said that you too play an important part in the campaign.

“We ask the public to be vigilant – please don’t be a victim. Never leave your personal belongings unattended. Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times,” Page said. “Criminals often target people who are distracted.”
