TORONTO, Ont. – An 82-year-old man and his son — in his 40s — are dead following a house fire in North York, Thursday.

The fire broke out in a home at 32 Charrington Crescent — near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West — just after midnight.

Two other family members — the elderly man’s wife and second adult son — were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Two firefighters were also injured, and have been treated for smoke inhalation and a minor leg injury.

The father’s body was found on the main floor of the home, while the middle-aged son’s body was found in the basement.

Neighbours told CityNews Channel that the family has lived in the house for well over 40 years, and were one of the first families to move onto the street. Both sons lived at home with their parents.

There are also reports that one of the family members may have used a walker.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating. Smoke alarms have been seized from the home, but it’s unclear whether or not they were working properly.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but officials believe it may have started in the basement of the house.
