York police launch holiday RIDE program

York Regional Police will launch its 2012 holiday RIDE program, Wednesday, designed to combat drunk driving during the festive season.
The kickoff takes place at 10 a.m. in Markham, Ont., with a spot-check being set up nearby after the official launch.
Police said during RIDE in 2011, 87 drivers were arrested for drunk driving, while five were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
So far in 2012, three people have been killed in crashes in York Region, where alcohol was a contributing factor.
