TORONTO, Ont. – A second man has been charged with second-degree murder in Toronto’s first homicide of 2012.

Jamahl Franklin, 20, was gunned down on New Year’s Day near a home on Hupfield Trail in the Malvern area.

Mauro Granados-Arana was arrested while already in custody on an unrelated matter, police said, adding the 23-year-old man is charged with second-degree murder.

Investigators continue to appeal for anyone who attended the Dec. 31 New Year’s Eve party the victim was at prior to his death to come forward.

On Jan. 5, Baptists Bernier of Toronto was arrested in connection with Franklin’s murder.

The 22-year-old was also charged with second-degree murder.
