Day after Rob Ford conflict-of-interest ruling: what’s next?

TORONTO, Ont. – Ford is seeking a stay of the judge’s ruling pending an appeal to Divisional Court.

The stay application will be heard Dec. 5 and the appeal Jan. 7.

Earlier Tuesday, the city’s top lawyer rejected Ford’s plan to run in a byelection.

The scenarios for Ford include:

  • Appeals and is granted a stay of judgement in which case nothing will change for now
  • Appeals and is not granted a stay in which case council has to deal with it by appointing a councillor or calling a byelection
  • Is not granted a stay, but wins the appeal in which case he could return to the mayor’s office
  • Appeal fails
