TORONTO, Ont. – Ford is seeking a stay of the judge’s ruling pending an appeal to Divisional Court.
The stay application will be heard Dec. 5 and the appeal Jan. 7.
Earlier Tuesday, the city’s top lawyer rejected Ford’s plan to run in a byelection.
The scenarios for Ford include:
- Appeals and is granted a stay of judgement — in which case nothing will change for now
- Appeals and is not granted a stay — in which case council has to deal with it by appointing a councillor or calling a byelection
- Is not granted a stay, but wins the appeal — in which case he could return to the mayor’s office
- Appeal fails
