TORONTO, Ont. – A 17-year-old boy faces second-degree murder charges in the deadly mass shooting at a community barbecue on Danzig Street in July.

The boy was arrested and charged Thursday with two counts of second-degree murder in the shootout that killed two bystanders and wounded 23 people, including a toddler.

The youth, whose name cannot be published under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was scheduled to appear in court Friday.

The boy was also charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of recklessly discharging a firearm and 22 counts of aggravated assault.

He is the third person charged with murder in what is considered the worst mass shooting in the city’s history.

Nahom Tsegazab, 19, was charged Thursday with two counts of second-degree murder.

Tsegazab was also charged with one count of attempted murder and 22 counts of aggravated assault. He had been previously charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Earlier this month, police charged 18-year-old Shaquan ‘Bam Bam’ Mesquito with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault.

Police posted a composite drawing of two persons of interest in the case again on Thursday.

One man has been identified but police have not released a name. The second individual, who has a scar under his left eye, has been identified with the street name ‘Juvi’.

Investigators said there may still be one or two more outstanding individuals involved in the shooting.

“If we get reasonable grounds to believe that some other person, other than the three that are charged, fired a weapon and caused injury or death, they’ll be charged with murder,” said Staff Insp. Greg McLane.

The July 16 shooting killed innocent bystanders Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23.
