Winter is on its way and the City of Toronto says it’s prepared to handle whatever mother nature throws at them.
Plows sat around for much of last year, but that doesn’t mean they’re not ready for winter’s worst.
With 1,500 people, 1,100 vehicles and 130,000 tons of salt the city’s arsenal is stocked and ready to go.
The water department is also preparing, crews are waiting around the clock monitoring the 6,000 kilometres of pipes in the city.
Last year they dealt with 820 water main breaks and 1,600 in 2011.
The city sets $82-million aside for clean up every year, but because of the light winter last year there is an extra $12-million to $14-million that can be used for a very snowy day.
