Argos playing for berth in 100th annual Grey Cup, hosted in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. – It’s nearly time for the 100th anniversary of the Grey Cup, and after some impressive festivities, the big game is set to take place here in Toronto.

The Toronto Argonauts are deep in the playoffs, and a win over the Montreal Alouettes Sunday afternoon would mean the Argos would play for the Grey Cup in front of their home crowd.

The actual game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Rogers Centre.

On game day, both TTC and GO Transit will increase service.

In addition, officers will continue the R.I.D.E. program and are advising people to call 911 if they spot a driver who is impaired.

The Grey Cup festivities began on November 15, while the historic cup arrived in the city the day after, completing a cross-country journey.

The iconic cup had been travelling countrywide via train, visiting 100 cities as part of its centennial celebration.

But the biggest celebration was here in Toronto, where more than a week of festivities celebrated the clash of the CFL’s best.

Some of the festivities included events at Yonge-Dundas Square, where fans had the opportunity to enjoy music, food and things like Vanier Cup trivia.

At Nathan Phillips Square a Grey Cup photo-op took place.

Also included in the Grey Cup festivities is a 200-metre long zipline, which takes passengers from City Hall, over Nathan Phillips Square to Bay Street.

The zipline is more than 40-metres high and riders will travel at speeds up to 50 km/h. The ride is set to operate until November 24.

Although the Grey Cup began in 1909, a few years were missed in the middle due to WWI, meaning 2012 marks the 100th game.
