TORONTO, Ont – York Region police arrested a 44-year old man, Nizamuddin “Nizam” Khaja, wanted for fraud at Pearson International airport, Sunday.
Detective Fred Kerr of the York Regional Police, Major Fraud Bureau said “the information we have is that he actually came in on an international flight that afternoon.”
Khaja was arrested upon arrival without incident, and faces charges of fraud over $5,000, falsification of documents and breach of probation.
The suspect came in contact with the victim through an online dating website, where he led the victim to believe that he was a lawyer and investment broker before convincing the victim to hand over more than $125,000.
Khaja was allegedly going to invest on her behalf with an agreement that he was to pay the victims expenses while he managed her savings account.
The victim became concerned when her expenses were not being paid. Khaja has since stopped communicating with the victim and has yet to return her money.
“They have a victim on the north side of the Ottawa River, in Quebec, that has been victimized in the same way as my Richmond Hill victim,” said Detective Kerr.
York Regional Police believes there are more victims, and anyone with information is asked to call them at 905-830-0303, ext. 6614.
