Fewer students choosing Catholic high schools: Report

A new report shows more and more teens in London, Ont. are jumping from the Catholic school board and attending public schools instead.

The London Free Press reported Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School in the northeast end of the city dropped the most students, with only 69 per cent of grade eight pupils from its feeder schools attending in 2011, down from 96 per cent in 2007.

Overall, the retention trend is down, with fewer students choosing to go to Catholic high schools.

Declining enrolment means keeping students is essential for board budgets, which are based on per-pupil funding.
