TORONTO, Ont — The famed Beach Motel met a wrecking ball, Thursday, to be replaced with an Empire Communities development, consisting of 1,200 condominium units, offices, new stores and a park along Lake Shore Boulevard West.
Throughout the 1950′s and 1960′s, the motel was a part of Etobicoke’s famous vacation hot-spot full of motels, drive-through restaurants, dance-halls and bars.
However, by the 1980′s, this section of Lake Shore Boulevard became better known for hourly room rates and a drug hangout.
Developer Empire Communities purchased the land which the Beach Hotel sits on and began tearing down the existing building on Thursday. Development plans show two large condo towers: one with 66 floors and the other with 45.
The building development “Eau Du Soleil” is launching Phase 1 this fall.
