Two men sentenced to jail for separate assaults on TTC operators

TORONTO, Ont. – Two men received jail sentences for separate assaults on TTC operators.

In March 2011, a man boarded a Don Mills bus and threatened to shoot the bus operator and passengers if the operator did not allow him to ride for free, the TTC said.

He ordered the driver to move the bus immediately. The man was arrested by police after the driver managed to alert transit control.

According to a TTC release, Ozzie Cole, 37, pleaded guilty to assault, threatening death and breaching his probation on Nov. 7. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 18 months probation.

In a separate incident in August, a man attacked a subway operator after he was told not to walk between subway cars, according to the TTC. The operator was kicked in the knee and struck his head between the subway cab door, the TTC said.

The man fled and smashed the collector booth window in the station, the TTC said. Witnesses trailed the man to street level and he was arrested by police.

According to the TTC, the operator is permanently disabled and no longer able to drive TTC vehicles.

On Nov. 13, Sover Aransibia, 27, plead guilty to a charge of assault and mischief. He was sentenced to six months in jail and two years probation, the TTC said.

According to the TTC, on average two TTC employees are assaulted every day.
