Glass falls from Trump Tower on Bay Street

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police shut down Adelaide Street West, east of Bay Street after a large pane of glass fell Wednesday afternoon from the 34th storey of the Trump Tower.
Police told 680News that a pane of glass fell from the luxury hotel and residence on Bay Street shortly after 4 p.m. Police received numerous reports of glass falling from the 65-storey building onto the intersection and sidewalk.
The pane of glass struck a glass panel on the 18th floor, dislodging it and causing it to fall also, police said.
Police said no injuries were reported but a few vehicles were damaged.
Dorenda McNeil, a spokesperson for Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto, said the falling glass is not related to the structure of the building. She said that a glass panel appears to have fallen during construction work.
“The panel appears to have been dropped by a worker during installation,” she said in a statement.
“We are very thankful that no one was hurt.”
Police blocked the intersection at Bay and Adelaide streets for several hours to investigate.
Trump Toronto management is working with police to investigate the cause, McNeil added.
The Ministry of Labour is also investigating the incident.
This is second instance of falling glass from the downtown building.
In March, falling glass shut down the intersection when high winds knocked scaffolding into the building. No one was injured in that incident.
The Trump Tower opened on Jan. 31.
