TORONTO, Ont. – A draft bylaw banning plastic shopping bags has been endorsed by the city’s public works and infrastructure committee.
City council will consider the controversial bylaw for final approval Nov. 27.
The ban would be gradually rolled out.
There would be a grace period until July to allow for awareness and advertising.
City staff would produce and distribute in-store signage for retailers to notify customers.
So far, the draft bylaw does not specify fines.
