The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a vehicle struck a guard-rail on the Fort-Erie bound lanes of the QEW, causing a six-vehicle crash.
The crash happened just before midnight Saturday near Northshore Boulevard.
When police arrived they found people with minor injuries, described mostly as cuts and bruises.
An 83-year-old woman, who was a passenger in one of the cars, was taken to hospital as a precaution.
She died later that night, although officials believe she may have died as a result of an unrelated, pre-existing medical condition.
