TORONTO, Ont. – Repairs to an underground cable vault that caught fire recently is causing the power to be shut off to 40 buildings in the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue area.
The power outage was originally expected to last until 1 p.m, but it is expected to last longer.
The buildings affected by the outage are bordered by Duplex Avenue to the west, Bayview Avenue to the east, Broadway Avenue to the north and Soudan Avenue to the south.
Some people will not have power or water today; however newer condominium and apartment buildings with backup generators may not be effected by the planned outage.
Toronto Hydro spokesperson Tanya Brook-Mueller told 680News traffic lights in the area are not effected by the power outage as they run on a separate system.
Fire crews responded to a fire on Holly Street last night around 10:20.
