TORONTO, Ont. – A 25-year-old man died following a single-vehicle crash on the southbound Highway 427, near Finch Avenue, Friday.
Police have identified him as Avtar Singh Bang, from Woodbridge, Ont.
The crash happened at around 1:45 a.m. near the Rexdale Boulevard and Derry exit.
Police said the driver’s Audi “went off the roadway, up the embankment and then the vehicle came down the embankment and rolled numerous times,” OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said.
He was ejected from the vehicle and then “struck by other vehicles travelling along the highway.”
Police said he wasn’t wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Sgt. Woodford said this may have all been avoided had the driver simply buckled up.
“When they start rolling numerous times and you’re travelling at 120 kilometres an hour, you just never know. He wouldn’t have been ejected and he might not have been hit by other vehicles,” he said.
The highway was closed between Finch and Derry Road, but reopened just before 7 a.m.
Meanwhile, police officers investigating this crash were almost hit by another vehicle when a female driver, who was running late for a flight at Pearson International Airport, decided to drive right through the police roadblock and into the crash scene. She was stopped in time and now faces several charges.
