KENORA, Ont. – An Ontario provincial police officer has been charged after an investigation into the death of a woman by the province’s police watchdog.
Gloria Assin, 42, was killed as officers were transporting her to the Kenora, Ont. detachment on Sept. 23 at 2 a.m., the Special Investigations Unit said.
Assin died in a collision between the police cruiser and a tractor trailer at Highway 17A and Redditt Road.
Const. Troy Bender is facing one charge of dangerous driving causing death, SIU director Ian Scott said in a release.
He will appear in court in Kenora on Dec. 20.
