Barrie City Council is looking for ways to pay for some large, high-cost projects, and according to the Barrie Examiner, are asking staff to look into the idea of a strategic tax levy.
The money would fund multi-million dollar projects such as waterfront redevelopment, a downtown university campus and a rebuilt Barrie Central Collegiate.
However, the idea is far from a done deal due to strong opposition.
Some councillors said this would present itself like an extra tax, something which would be difficult for local businesses to swallow.
