TORONTO, Ont. – A woman has died a day after a fire at a Scarborough home sent her to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Family members confirmed to CityNews that Chandraleela Sivapatham succumbed to her injuries Wednesday.
Crews responded to a fire at a bungalow on Canlish Road near Lawrence Avenue East and Birchmount Road, shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Five people were taken to hospital, including Sivapatham, who was located without vital signs.
Her husband was taken to hospital in critical condition.
A mother and her toddler were also taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the two-alarm blaze.
The fire caused about $300,000 in damage and spread to a neighbouring house undergoing renovations.
The fire is believed to have originated from a cube van in the driveway.
