TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have arrested the husband of a 49-year-old man found bludgeoned to death in his Ossington Avenue home in March 2011.

Demitry Papasotiriou, 32, of Toronto, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Allan Lanteigne, Det. Tam Bui said at an evening news conference Friday.

Papasotiriou will appear at Old City Hall Saturday.

Bui said police executed three search warrants in the Greater Toronto Area two in Toronto and one in Mississauga that led to the arrest.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Mladen (Michael) Ivezic, 52, of Mississauga, who is wanted for first-degree murder and is believed to be somewhere in Europe.

Lanteigne was found dead inside his Ossington Avenue home on March 3, 2011. Police said there were obvious signs of trauma to his body.

Lanteigne was last heard from on March 2, when he called a friend as he walked home from the University of Toronto, where he worked as an accounting clerk. There were no signs of forced entry when his body was discovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Don Sterritt, the brother-in-law of Lanteigne, said “it’s been a day of mixed emotions.”

“On one hand, we’re elated that we’re at this stage in the process but even with that elation, you very quickly have the realization that Allan is dead,” he said.

“When you lose someone through something so senseless and tragic as a murder, it’s almost incomprehensible, certainly, for ordinary people like us.”

“I can’t name the number of times I’ve heard family members say ‘this is like something you would see on TV,’ but it’s not TV, this is reality,” Sterritt said.
