RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a 30-year-old man after a York Regional Police cruiser “came into contact” with the pedestrian after he was struck by at least two other vehicles early Thursday.
Police located the victim lying on the road on Yonge Street between King Road and Stouffville Road at about 3:30 a.m.
He was struck by at least two vehicles, in addition to responding police cruiser, police said.
“The man was struck then later struck again and then the cruiser came into contact,” police said.
Investigators believe the man was first struck by a silver Mercedes SUV before he was hit again by another vehicle.
Subsequently, the responding police cruiser “came into contact” with the man, police said.
Police have not released the identity of the man, who died at the scene.
Investigators are looking for the SUV, believed to be an R-class model from between 2006 to 2010 with damage to the front-end.
Yonge Street was closed between King Road and Stouffville Road for the investigation.
The fatality was one of two deaths Thursday in a rash of accidents across the Greater Toronto Area.
