TORONTO, Ont. – A consultant’s report on whether Toronto should roll the dice on a casino has been released ahead of next week’s executive committee meeting where it will be discussed.
It looks at four locations: the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Exhibition Place, the Port Lands and Woodbine Racetrack.
It said a casino on city-owned land could bring in between $35-million and $250-million, plus the hosting fee could be anywhere from $32-million and $168-million a year, and could lead to up to 7,300 jobs.
But, the report also included a warning from the city’s medical officer of health who said it will lead to more problem gamblers.
However, police don’t anticipate an increase in crime.
Mayor Rob Ford supports a casino, but many members of council, including some of his allies are against it.
