Toronto Public Health is warning restaurateurs about a fake restaurant inspector who has been making the rounds.
The warning comes after health officials and police received several complaints from restaurant owners who have been contacted in person, or by telephone, by people claiming to be health inspectors.
The fake health inspectors then tell the operators that they have to buy a first-aid-kit because of new regulations.
“The individual later tried to sell those operators first-aid-kits, some up to about $300 each,” said Jim Chan
Chan stressed that legitimate inspectors don’t call ahead and would never try to sell a first-aid-kit.
All real inspectors also carry a badge and photo ID card.
Police are asking that anyone who gets a similar phone call or visit contacts them.
