TORONTO, Ont. – The Toronto Raptors have waived centre Jamaal Magloire, the first Canadian-born player to play for the squad.
Magloire, born in Toronto, is a veteran centre who spent the 2011 season with the Raptors.
He had re-signed with the Raps for the 2012 season, but was waived, likely due in part to what is already a crowded front-court.
The 6’11″ centre was a solid veteran presence for the Raptors, but he no longer has the quick feet and athleticism that made him an all-star in 2003 with the New Orleans Hornets.
Magloire was born and raised in Toronto, attending basketball-powerhouse Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute, which has produced several professional basketball players.
It’s unclear whether Magloire may take some sort of coaching or administrative role with the team.
