TORONTO, Ont. – The focus on dangerous drivers in two “significant traffic issue” areas of Toronto has paid off.
On Wednesday, police launched a 12-hour traffic safety blitz called “Project Alert.”
Officers issued 126 tickets to drivers on Yonge Street between Highway 401 and Finch Avenue West, and on Bathurst Street from Steeles Avenue West to Finch Avenue West.
Police identified both of those areas as having significant traffic issues including collisions, congestion and a number of pedestrians being hit.
During the blitz, officers also snagged a man with three outstanding fraud charges and charged another driver with cocaine possession.
So far in 2012, there have been over 3,000 car crashes in the area policed by police in 32 division.
