TORONTO, Ont. – Police have asked Cabbagetown residents to keep their eyes open for a discarded knife, linked to Tuesday morning’s murder of a 55-year-old woman.
Nighisti Semret was walking near Ontario street around 7 a.m. when she was stabbed to death.
Investigators say the knife is likely to be found in the area bounded by Sherbourne, Carlton, Ontario and Wellesley streets. Business property owners are also being asked to check their premises.
Investigators are hoping any home or business owners with security cameras will check their surveillance tapes.
Const. Tony Vella told 680News they are looking for footage between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Tuesday October 23, to see if there is anything suspicious.
The person responsible for Semret’s death has not been caught. Her family, meanwhile, has been located and contacted about the crime.
“They’ve notified her brothers and mother, as well as her three children in Uganda,” Vella said.
It remains unclear whether or not the killing was a random attack.
