Former MPP Sandra Pupatello considers Ont. Liberal leadership run

TORONTO, Ont. – The next provincial election could be a female face-off.

Former Liberal cabinet minister Sandra Pupatello is considering a run to replace Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Given NDP Leader Andrea Horwath’s upswing in popularity, having a high-profile woman at the helm of the Liberal party could be good strategy for the Liberals.

Horwath has seen an increase in support because of what many see as her softer political approach.

Pupatello has been away from Queen’s Park for a year. She told the Toronto Sun she quit knowing McGuinty wasn’t going anywhere at the time so there was no where for her to go.

But she’s not the only woman talking about the race to lead the Liberals. Municipal Affairs Minister Kathleen Wynne and Education Minister Laurel Broten are also names being tossed around.
