MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – A Mississauga man is facing five charges after a lengthy police standoff at a home on Monday.
Peel police said the 14-hour standoff began around 11 a.m. on Monday when a man, reportedly carrying a sword, barricaded himself in the home on Manzanillo Crescent near Britannia Road and Ninth Line.
Neil Armstrong, 27, of Mississauga is charged with two counts each of weapons dangerous and breach of probation, and one count of breach of recognizance.
Police said the man jumped out of the second-storey of a home at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. He was arrested about an hour later without injury.
The accused remains in hospital where he is undergoing assessment.
He was remanded from the hospital by way of a telephone bail hearing.
It is not clear why the man barricaded himself inside the home.
