TORONTO, Ont. – The province’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl in the city’s west-end early Tuesday morning.
The Special Investigations Unit said police were called to an apartment building on Mabelle Avenue near Bloor Street and Islington Avenue just after 12 a.m.
Officers arrived to see the girl hanging from a balcony on the 14th floor.
“While officers attempted to speak with her from an adjacent balcony, she fell to the ground,” the watchdog said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
The SIU investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
