An New Democrat MP was removed from an Air Canada flight from Montreal to Val D’Or, Friday, after officials said he was too intoxicated to fly.

Romeo Saganash told the CBC “it was Friday, it had been a long week, and we’re all stressed out at that time.”

The flight had to be delayed by a half hour in order to escort Saganash off the plane.

The MP, formerly a Cree leader, was elected to represent the northern Quebec riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou in last year’s federal election.

He ran for NDP leadership in 2011, but dropped out halfway through the campaign.
