TORONTO, Ont. – The Gardiner Expressway continues to be in the spotlight, but despite several chunks of the structure’s concrete crashing to the ground recently, Mayor Rob Ford assures Torontonians it’s safe to walk or drive beneath it.
However, he told CityNews Channel he has yet to fully review a report which looks into the Expressway’s problems, because it was only given to him last week – even though it came out in September.
“It is an old structure. Things are going to happen, so I’d like to review that report – which I’m doing – and hopefully nothing will happen,” he said, Monday.
The report, which calls the Gardiner a hazard, follows several incidents this past spring and summer, which saw concrete falling off the Expressway and onto the road below, prompting emergency inspections.
