BURLINGTON, Ont. – A 69-year-old man has died after being struck by an SUV in Burlington, Monday evening.

Halton Police said the man was hit just after 7 p.m. on Maple Crossing Ave., in the southwest end of the city.

Witnesses tell CityNews the victim was teaching his 17-year-old stepson how to drive, who accidentally stepped on the accelerator when he was backing up.

“I guess the son had panicked and hit the stepfather. At that point is when he went down and [he] obviously panicked because the truck’s in the house,” the woman said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Halton police remained on the scene late Monday night.

Investigators said an 18-year-old woman was also hurt in the incident. She was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

There is no word on charges, and no names have been released.
