The Blue Jays will be looking for a new manager this year, after allowing John Farrell to take the job as manager with the Boston Red Sox.

The Jays will get veteran infielder Mike Aviles in return for Farrell, who had one year left on his contract with the Jays.

The Blue Jays will also send little-used reliever David Carpenter to the Red Sox.

A formal announcement is expected sometime Sunday, with the deal hinging on the fact that Farrell has agreed to a three-year contract with the Sox.

Aviles, who started at shortstop for the Rex Sox last season, can also play second base. The 31-year-old infielder has been inconsistent throughout his career, although he hit .250 last season with 13 home runs and 60 RBIs.

For weeks rumours had swirled that the Sox were actively pursuing Farrell, the former pitching coach in Boston.

Farrell managed in Toronto for two years, accumulating a record of 154-170.
