TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police are on the lookout for two suspects after a man was found dead inside an empty east-end industrial unit Wednesday afternoon.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. The victim’s identity is yet to be released.

Police responded to a call regarding “unknown trouble” at 1970 Ellesmere Rd. near Bellamy Road in Scarborough at about 3 p.m. Wednesday with a report of two people injured.

Police have since confirmed that a woman was not injured. She was taken to 43 Division for questioning.

Officers were called to the warehouse by a man who had been hired by the building owner to check on the property, police said. When the man arrived, he said he saw two suspects fleeing.

When inside the unit, police discovered the dead man with obvious signs of trauma and an uninjured woman.

“She was obviously shaken up as anyone would be, but she’s cooperating with us at this time,” Det. Michael Carbone said at a news conference Wednesday night.

Carbone could not discuss specific details surrounding the man’s death.

“It’s very early,” he said. “We’re still looking into speaking to some more witnesses.”

Carbone could not comment on whether the victims were brought to the unit, which he noted is a vacant unit.

“It is an empty unit. There shouldn’t have been anybody there.”

Earlier Wednesday, police appealed to the public to locate a white Mercedes SUV with the Ontario licence plate BNNZ 922 spotted fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was located in the parking lot of Bayview Village at Bayview and Sheppard avenues in North York at about 9:30 p.m. It will undergo forensic testing.

Carbone declined to comment on reports that the victims were found bound in the unit.

There is no description of the suspects available.
