The cooler air the province of Ontario has been feeling over the past few weeks not only makes this fall cooler than last year’s, but may be an indication of what is to come.
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts this winter will be in accordance of what we can expect with a normal, Canadian winter – cold air and snow.
Although Environment Canada will not be releasing its winter forecast until Dec. 1, thestar.com reports the Almanac is calling for a colder-than-normal winter – particularly around Christmas and into January, as well as the first half of February.
It adds that snowfall will be near to above normal in southwestern Ontario, while staying below normal elsewhere.
The winter of 2011-2012 saw 250 records broken, according to Environment Canada.
Over four months, the temperatures were 5.2 C warmer than the -3.8 C average, and snowfall totals at Pearson Airport measured a mere 40 centimetres, compared to the normal 109.7 centimetres expected from September through March.
