BRAMPTON, Ont. – The flag at Beatty-Fleming Senior Public School in Brampton, Ont., will fly at half-staff on Monday with grief counsellors on hand to help students and staff deal with the death of their principal.
Debra Allen, 54, was found shot dead in her Georgetown home Hillside Drive at around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Halton Regional Police called in the province’s Special Investigations Unit after Debra’s husband, David Allen, 65, was also found dead in the same home.
The SIU is called in when there has been interaction involving police that leads to death, injuries or allegations of sexual assault.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call saying a female had been shot.
The SIU said that when police arrived on the scene, they set up a perimetre around the home attempted to communicate with David. A short time later, the officers heard shots. When police entered the home, both were found dead with gunshot wounds.
Allen was a popular principal at the school, and Peel District School Board officials told CityNews Channel both staff and students are having a hard time believing something so tragic has happened to her.
