In addition to being a major transportation hub Union Station is also a massive construction project at the moment.
The pouring of the concrete slabs for the York concourse is now underway the project reached a critical point Friday.
The project includes a new lower retail level and two new GO concourses.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was among those there to see it all happen.
“I was here probably six months ago and they’ve come a long way in a short period of time,” Ford told CityNews Channel.
The $640-million project involves all three levels of government, and is expected to be finished by 2016.
Union Station’s redevelopment includes the creation of 160,000 square feet of retail space, an addition of 125,000 square feet compared to the previous space.
