It’s the changing of the guard at Peel regional police and it also marks a major milestone.

Jennifer Evans was sworn in Friday morning as the new police chief. She’s the region’s first woman to become top cop.

“I look forward to working in the community, with the community and leading to a safer community,” she said.

The new chief told CityNews Channel she is honoured to have been selected and talks about her vision.

“Reducing crime and preventing criminals from becoming comfortable in our region is critical to our success,” she said.

Evans joined the force in 1983 and was appointed deputy chief in 2008.
