It was a fiery debate that ended in what many pundits are calling a draw, as Vice President Joe Biden took on Congressman Paul Ryan in the prime-time.
Perhaps gaining more attention than the actual substance of the debate were the grins and smirks, with Biden seemingly smirking or laughing every time Ryan spoke.
The laughing quickly resulted in a Twitter handle “Laughing Joe Biden,” which generated hundreds of thousands of followers within minutes.
Some of the more memorable Tweets included “Joe Biden finds the debate hilarious,” and “Biden is too old to have teeth this young.”
Ryan responded with several smirks of his own as Biden spoke, however they were not nearly as prominent and did not garner the same attention.
The Republican critics didn’t take long to jump on Biden’s laughing.
“Frankly I was embarrassed for the vice president, I mean the laughs, we counted 82 times that Joe Biden interrupted.”
Even Biden’s son was put on the defensive by reporters, who questioned the grins and laughs.
“If the only criticism from the right and some folks out there is that he smiled too much, I’ll take that any day, my father was enjoying the opportunity to debate Congressman Ryan on some very important issues,” Biden’s son said.
Despite the optical distraction, most critics agreed that the debate ended in a draw.
“I’m a Republican pundit so I’m supposed to tell you that I saw Paul Ryan crush Joe Biden, but I took some truth serum this morning, I saw a draw, I think they both did very well,” said Anna Navarro.
