Toronto has joined Vancouver and Montreal among the top five cities in North America when it comes to traffic delays according to a traffic-congestion survey from GPS firm TomTom.
There were a total of 26 cities surveyed, with Toronto coming in fifth, while Vancouver was second only to Los Angeles.
Commuters on the Gardiner Expressway spoke to 680News reporter Carl Hanstke, and they said they were not surprised.
Bill, who drives in from Acton, Ontario, said what used to be a 45-minute trip can now take up to 2-and-a-half hours.
“It’s the construction, it’s very very bad, I’ve got to leave at 4:30 a.m. to get down here,” Bill said.
The research, using data drawn from the company’s subscribers, shows drivers in Vancouver have their overall commute delayed an extra 33 per cent during congestion compared to when traffic flows smoothly.
There were other Canadian cities on the list. Montreal took fourth place in the survey, while Ottawa was 12th and Calgary 16th.
The survey shows drivers in the top three Canadian cities are hit the hardest by traffic during evening gridlock, which takes more than two-thirds longer compared to when traffic is light.
