A Toronto family needs $100,000 to bring their baby home from Greece.
Eight-month old Alexander Karanikas started developing cold-like symptoms while on a family vacation there in June and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, (DCM) last month.
DCM is a condition in which the heart becomes weakened and enlarged and cannot pump blood efficiently. The decreased heart function can affect the lungs, liver, and other body systems.
The Global Angel Charitable Organization tells City News Channel the condition can be fatal if the proper medical treatment is not received in Canada.
Alexander’s family did not have travel insurance or the money to get him home via air ambulance.
Donations can be made at the Global Angel Charity Website, or by calling (705) 740-2645.
