ROSEMONT, Ont. – One person is dead following a crash involving a dump truck and SUV on Hwy. 89 near Concession Road Two, Ontario Provincial Police said.
The driver of the SUV died, OPP said. The identity of the victim is not known.
It happened at approximately 8:15 a.m. west of Alliston, Ont.
According to an OPP release, the dump truck was driving eastbound on Highway 89, the SUV was westbound when it veered into the path of the truck. The vehicles collided despite witnessed efforts of the truck driver to avoid impact.
Police said the SUV burst into flames following the collision.
The driver of the dump truck, a 59-year-old male from Dundalk, Ontario suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Stevenson Memorial Hosptial in Alliston where he was treated and released.
Police have shut down Highway 89 between Jamieson Drive and the 3rd Concession and blocked northbound traffic on the 2nd Concession at the 30th Sideroad.
The roads are expected to remain closed for several hours.
