TORONTO, Ont. – A woman and a 14-year-old girl are in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a transport truck in the city’s northwest end, Tuesday afternoon.

Toronto police told 680News it happened around 5:30 p.m. at Hwy. 27 at Steeles.

“They were [crossing] from the west side of Hwy. 27 to the East Side,” Const. Clint Stibbe told 680News. “A tractor trailer was making a right-hand turn, and struck the two pedestrians as they were crossing.”

Stibbe said the initial investigation revealed that the pedestrians had the right-of-way.

“The youngest of the two was transferred to Hospital for Sick Kids on an emergency run,” Stibbe added. Both are expected to recover and their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

No charges have been laid at this time, but police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

The intersection of Hwy. 27 and Steeles was closed for several hours Tuesday evening as police continued their investigation.
