OAKVILLE, Ont. – The driver of the Mazda 3 involved in a fatal wrong-way collision on Hwy. 407 on Saturday faces several charges including impaired driving causing death, Ontario Regional Police said.
The collision occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday when a Mazda 3 driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 407, near Hwy. 403 smashed into a Toyota Corolla.
Carol Grimmond, 47, was transported to Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga where she was pronounced dead. Her twin brother was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The woman driving the Mazda, who escaped uninjured, was arrested at the scene. Mary Sampson, 55, of Oakville, faces four charges, including impaired driving causing death, OPP said.
Before the wrong-way crash, Grimmond and her brother were at a family gathering to celebrate the 99th birthday of their grandfather.
